HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville Police closed Oakwood Avenue following a fatal car wreck near Club View Drive Sunday afternoon.
Police said a car was traveling west on Oakwood when the driver, Robert James McDonald, lost control and crashed into a utility pole. The driver then veered across the road and struck a fire hydrant.
The utility pole was split in half and power lines were downed.
HEMSI transported the driver to Huntsville Hospital where he died.
Oakwood Avenue was shut down from Hampton Road to Club View Drive while crews clear the scene for almost four hours.
