MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
Alabama State Troopers investigated 13 fatal wrecks during the Christmas and New Year's holiday period.
Officials said the period December 22 through January 2, 13 fatal car crashes were reported, resulting in 14 deaths.
The wrecks included two motorcyclists and one pedestrian. Officials said in 11 of the incidents, seatbelts were available and in only two incidents were they used.
Deaths were investigated in Lamar, Mobile, Walker, Pickens, Etowah, Madison, Marshall, Calhoun, Butler, DeKalb, Monroe, Blount and Chambers counties.
The number is down from 2011. Troopers said during that time period, they investigated 17 fatalities.
