BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -
A East Baton Rouge sheriff's detective has been arrested for abusing his girlfriend.
According to reports, Michael Abernathy, 35, allegedly abused his girlfriend in December while drinking. Detectives saw several bruises on the girlfriend's body and eyes, matching her description of the abuse.
Abernathy was arrested Thursday afternoon and fired from the sheriff's office. He had been with the department for the last 13 years, most recently with the armed robbery and burglary division.
