WASHINGTON, D.C. (WBRC) -

Senator Richard Shelby had some tough words Wednesday about passage of the fiscal cliff bill.

This morning on "Fox and Friends" Alabama's U.S. Senator said the deal was bad and that there are not enough cuts to spending.

Senator Shelby says President Obama missed a great opportunity to do, what he called, "a big thing." Shelby wanted to see deeper spending cuts, entitlement reform and a reduction of the country's debt. His criticism also extended to fellow Republicans who voted for yesterday's deal.

"I think it was a mistake that they did it. The overwhelming majority of the House, the Republicans, understood what this was. They had a chance to reflect on it. I was proud of 'em, but the one's that voted for it I think they will rue the day," Shelby said.

Republican Senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama voted for the fiscal cliff bill yesterday.

Sessions' office had no comment today on Senator Shelby's remarks. They said he stands by the statement he released after his vote.

Senator Sessions said the bill's enactment will "end a long period of uncertainty that would weaken or even reverse economic growth. Now, it is important that we place our focus directly on the real cause of our nation's looming debt crisis: the continued surge in spending."

Meanwhile, in the House vote, Congresswoman Terri Sewell, Alabama's lone

Democrat in Washington, was the only Alabamian voting for the fiscal cliff bill.

David: Showers and storms ongoing across the Valley

    Saturday, March 25 2017 5:50 PM EDT2017-03-25 21:50:37 GMT

Showers and storms will be ongoing across the Valley this evening. The most widespread rain will be over northeastern AL, but additional scattered storms will track into the Shoals from the west. That round of stormy weather will head east with time and should be out of the Valley after midnight. The threat for severe storms is low, but a few strong storms are possible.
