Fans welcome Gamecocks back to Columbia

COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) -

Dozens of University of South Carolina fans welcomed the Gamecocks back to Columbia after their come-from-behind Outback Bowl win.

"It feels great to be a Gamecock," said Lauren Baskin, who drove to Columbia from Lancaster Wednesday to be there when the team returned.

Fans waited at Williams-Brice Stadium Wednesday morning as the buses carrying the team pulled in.

"It's amazing," said USC senior tailback Kenny Miles. "This is the last chance I get to do it, so it feels good."

Stephanie Amaker was at the game in Tampa, and returned in time to welcome the team back to Williams-Brice.

"You can't even describe it, just in awe," she described the game.  "All the way down to the last seconds it was just breathtaking.  Everybody's just holding their chests.  It was absolutely great."

South Carolina beat Michigan 33-28 in the Outback Bowl Tuesday to wrap up the Gamecocks' second straight 11-win season. The Gamecocks finished the season at 11-2 overall and 6-2 in the SEC.

"I couldn't have picked a better way to end it, especially with the game we had yesterday," said Miles.  "It was a thriller.  We were up.  We were down.  But in the end, we made it count."

As players got off the buses, they signed autographs and took photos with fans.

"Every year we come down here," said Monica Bowers. "We have season tickets.  We come to every game, why not come?"

"I'm here because I'm proud to be a Gamecock," said Baskin.

    Parker White kicked a 31-yard field goal with four seconds left to give South Carolina a 17-16 win over Louisiana Tech on Saturday.
