LINCOLNTON, NC (WBTV) -
A Lincoln Co. man has been charged with animal cruelty after deputies say he shot and killed a pet snake.
The incident was reported around 9:30 p.m. on Dec. 30 along the 7600 block of Sawdust Trail, according to a news release from the Lincoln County Sheriff's Office.
Gary Wayne Erricson, 46, is charged with felony possession of a firearm by a felon, felony cruelty to animals and one misdemeanor count of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, according to the release.
Deputies arrived at the residence in response to a domestic dispute where someone was shooting into the wall's of the residence.
Deputies reported numerous holes in the walls of the residence that were caused by shotgun blast. There was also broken furniture and glass. The suspect also took a pet snake out behind the residence where he shot and killed it.
