NEW ORLEANS, LA (WWL) -
Money troubles are expected to dominate discussions at the Louisiana Capitol.
According to WWL-TV in New Orleans, Gov. Bobby Jindal is already pointing to overhauling the state's tax code as his top priority this year.
Senate leaders say that means lowering corporate taxes, while trimming back a number of business tax breaks.
Meanwhile, lawmakers will once again face some tough decisions in 2013.
They will have to find a way to make major spending reductions to keep the state budget in check.
"Our revenue is dropping continually," said Sen. John Alario Jr., R-Westwego. "It makes for a very struggling budget plan, so we're going to have a difficult time this year."
"$1.2 billion is going to be on the backs of higher education and healthcare," added Sen. David Heitmeier, D-New Orleans.
Other items expected to be debated this year are college tuition and fee increases and the voucher program recently struck down as unconstitutional.
