BOX SCORE
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –
Searching for an upset, the University of Alabama in Huntsville hockey team fell 5-2 to No. 1-ranked Boston College on Saturday in the first game of the 2012 Mariucci Classic.

UAH (3-15-1) scored two goals on the top-ranked team in the country, but the Eagles (12-2-1) were too much in the opening game of the annual Mariucci Classic hosted by the University of Minnesota.

Jeff Vanderlugt scored his team-leading sixth goal of the season, yet Boston College scored five goals of their own on the Chargers and earned their 12th victory of the season. Vanderlugt's goal came in the second period and was assisted by Steven Koshey and Frank Misuraca.

Boston College long-time head coach Jerry York earned his 925th win of his career, making him the all-time winnings coach in NCAA hockey history. The five-time national champion picked up his most historic win ever on neutral ice Saturday night and will take over the top spot in the all-time career wins category in college hockey.

The Eagles scored three goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Boston College would add two more to their total and finish with five goals on the night, which is tied for their second-highest total all season.

Sophomore Craig Pierce would tally his third goal of the season in the third period, but it was too little too late for the heavy underdogs. Pierce finished strong and was assisted by Lasse Uusivirta and Alex Allan.

UAH will play their second game of the Mariucci Classic tomorrow afternoon against Air Force. The two teams will faceoff at 4 p.m.
