HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A Huntsville man said he's ready to take matters into his own hands to defend his family after someone shot at him in his own front yard. It happened Thursday night in the 2800 block of Cave Avenue. Investigators said the shooter fired off several bullets from their car then drove away.

The victim and his wife did not want their identities revealed, but they did talk about what happened as the pointed out several bullet holes in their home. The man said he was walking his dog in his front yard when a young African -American male pulled up in a burgundy Crown Victoria, pulled out what he believed was a nine-millimeter pistol, and shot at him three times. He said he dodged the bullets that went into his home. His wife was inside. Fortunately, she had gone to bed, because the bullets went into the living room where she had been watching television.

The man said he ran inside, grabbed his rifle, went back outside, fully intending to shoot if need be, but the shooter was gone. He added the same person pulled up to his home in his car a couple of days before Christmas, showed his gun, then left.

No arrest has been made. The victims said police told him not to take matters into his own hands, but added he's ready to defend his home. He said he is tired of drug activity in the neighborhood, and he is going to buy more guns to protect his family.
