TALLADEGA COUNTY, AL (WBRC) -

About a dozen people gathered at the Talladega County Courthouse Friday to pray for the safe return of a missing five-year-old boy.

Evan Diggs has been missing since last week. Authorities believe his father, Eric Diggs, who does not have custody of Evan, has taken him. Family and friends of Evan's mother, Amanda Turner offered prayers during the vigil.

Turner became emotional at times, wiping away tears during the event.

"I know people all over are praying for him, not just here. I know Evan is safe and he is okay," Turner said.

Turner's father believes the prayer vigil will make a difference.

"We know His hand is on Evan's life. I believe God has a watch over all children. His guardian angels are with us in that sense," Paul Burrell said.

Evan is 3 feet tall and weights 65 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green John Deere shirt, camouflage pants and jacket with red and black Spider Man light up tennis shoes.

Thomas Eric Diggs is believed to have been driving a white 1996 Grand Jeep Cherokee, Alabama tag number BA 14549. He had recently lost his job. Authorities believe that the pair is possible heading to Daytona Beach, Fla.

There are no arrest warrants on Diggs, but family members are concerned about the safety of Evan. Anyone with information on the location of Evan is asked to call the Talladega Police Department at 256-362-4162.

Another cold morning out there today, but this is the last of that! Temperatures this morning are into the mid to upper teens and low 20s, but the wind chill is pretty much nonexistent because we have a light wind from the south at 2 mph.
