BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -
Birmingham police have released new details about skeletal remains found near the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course this week.
They say the victim's identity is still unknown but the believe the remains belong to a male who had hip replacement surgery. They are now investigating the case as a homicide.
The skeletal remains were found near the 9th hole of the Valley
course at the Oxmoor Valley Golf Course. The land where the body was found is not part of the golf course property.
The coroner's office was first notified Sunday, Dec. 23 and spent most
of Monday morning at the remote site marking and collecting evidence.
Part of the ground in this clearing appeared to have been burned with the
blackened earth remaining as evidence.
The public can't get to the site from the golf course without wading
across a creek and there is no easy access road to this site from the
other direction, either.
