MUSCLE SHOALS, AL (WAFF) -

This Christmas will be extra special for soldiers with the 115 Signal Battalion. These men and women just returned from a year-long deployment.

This year being home for the holidays carries a special meaning to the Robberts' family.

"Just to be home – and my folks came in from out of town – that's also something that's been a real big enjoyment for me," Mike Robberts, with the 115 Signal Battalion, said.

Robberts is one of hundreds of soldiers who is spending Christmas at home this year following his year-long deployment to Afghanistan.

He said spending time with family is the best gift of all.

"I appreciate the time I have. It has a little more value, a little more worth…treasure it a little bit more."

Robberts said he was most excited about spending the morning with his two-year-old son.

"I'm really looking forward to that tomorrow, to be able to get up and play with him with his toys."

The final group of soldiers from the 450-person unit returned home to North Alabama at the end of October.
