HUNTSVILLE, AL - The Huntsville Havoc showed signs of improvement winning on the road at Augusta and beating the Mississippi RiverKings at home before falling on the road Sunday to the RiverKings.

AUGUSTA, GA - Dan McWhinney recorded a shutout against the Augusta RiverHawks as the Huntsville Havoc picked up a 3-0 win.
Huntsville pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 27 penalty minutes. The Havoc were paced by Chapen LeBlond, who had one goal. LeBlond scored 55 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Huntsville. Bryant Doerrsam picked up the assist. Huntsville put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Augusta to score on any of its eight power plays. The 27 shots that the Havoc put on net surpassed Huntsville's average of 21.8 shots per game this season.
Ian Boots also scored for Huntsville. More assists for Huntsville came via Sam Cannata, Cody Crichton, and Brett Liscomb, who contributed one a piece. The RiverHawks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up nine minors and one major for 53 minutes in penalty time. Augusta had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. The RiverHawks were held below their usual level of production. Augusta averages 2.3 goals per game. The RiverHawks' offense was clicking better than usual and put 46 shots on goal during the game, better than the 29.5 shots per game they average. Augusta was led by Matt Auffrey, who took 10 shots.
McWhinney recorded 46 saves for the Havoc. Huntsville registered one goal on six power play opportunities. Robbie Moss made 24 saves for the RiverHawks on 27 shots. For Augusta, Casey Mignone was ejected from the game.
Saturday, December 22 - Mississippi RiverKings 1, Huntsville 4
HUNTSVILLE, AL - Justin Fox scored a goal and added an assist as the Huntsville Havoc won their second straight game with a 4-1 decision over the Mississippi RiverKings Saturday night. Aaron McGill got the Havoc on the board early when he took a great pass from Ian Boots and buried it in the back of the net with 12:26 left in the first period. The Havoc got two powerplay goals in the second period, the first by Fox with 12:21 left. Colin Reddin made it 3-0 with 10:51 left in the second period. Todd Hosmer put the RiverKings on the board with 4:32 left in the second period and the Havoc lead was 3-1 after two periods. McGill added a third period goal to ice the game with 4:49 left. Mississippi outshot the Havoc 46-22 but goalie Dan McWhinney made 45 saves. He has only allowed one goal in the last seven periods in net. Matthew Krahn made 18 saves in the loss.
Sunday, December 23 - Huntsville 1, Mississippi RiverKings 2
SOUTHAVEN, MS - Jonathan LaRose made 26 saves and allowed two goals but it wasn't enough as the Huntsville Havoc fell 2-1 on the the road Sunday afternoon to the Mississippi RiverKings.
Darrel Stoddard gave the RiverKings a 1-0 lead when he found the back of the net with 9:48 left in the second period. Mike Baran had the assist. The Havoc tied the game at 1-1 with 17:53 left in the third when Matt Smyth scored as Cody Crichton picked up the assist. Todd Hosmer scored for Mississippi with 4:50 remaining in the game and the RiverKings held on from there. David Wilson made 21 saves in the win. Both teams were scoreless on the powerplay as Huntsville had six chances and Mississippi had eight.
