HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Huntsville Utilities is warning about a bill payment scam, where someone will call you and ask for your credit or debit card information.
Utilities customers from across the U.S. have reported this scam.
The utility company said these scammers will call customers for immediate payment on their accounts. They even threaten to turn off power if the customer doesn't pay in full.
The callers have also been reported to have asked the customer to buy a prepaid debit card and call a fake telephone number to arrange payment.
Huntsville Utilities said it never contacts customers by phone.
If you receive such a call, officials say to get as much information as you can, then call them, so they can investigate it.
