HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The Huntsville city school board met for the first time since the Sandy Hook shootings on Thursday night. Safety was on the top of the agenda.
Superintendent Dr. Casey Wardynski noted an increased police presence at all Huntsville schools this week, and said the board is working with Huntsville Police to see which schools are in need of new security measures.
A hot topic has been the idea of arming teachers. Wardynski, who's retired military, said that question requires a lot of thought.
"There's a lot that goes into weapons. You can go on and on with that, whose weapon, you don't want things going through walls. Really, the people best equipped to address those kinds of things are the professionals, the policemen," he said.
Wardynski also addressed his new contract and the Huntsville virtual schools program.
