GURLEY, AL (WAFF) -
A Madison County community took action to fight a new quarry.
The Gurley town council presented a resolution opposing the quarry on Tuesday night. The council approved the resolution.
The quarry will be built on the west side of Gurley Mountain.
Opponents said it will affect the quality of life for resident in eastern Madison County.
M & N Materials sued the city, saying Gurley's leaders blocked the company from building the quarry.
The company won a $5-million lawsuit, but a Madison County judge issued a stay in the decision since the town would have to file for bankruptcy to pay it.
