Huntsville police said a person was injured in a shooting Tuesday morning.

The shooting happened a little after 5 a.m. in the 6000 block of Mastin Lake Road, a mostly commercial area.

Police said the victim, Ryyan Sherman Gailes (a.k.a. Detroit), sustained serious injuries after a gunshot wound to the stomach, and drove himself to the hospital.

Gailes told investigators he and several friends were hanging out inside a closed business, identified by signs as Floral Decor, when three unknown men entered and attempted to rob him. He said one of the men fired several shots, wounding Gailes.

Gailes was also armed and returned fire on the offenders.

Officers did have two people in the back of a patrol car at the scene earlier Tuesday, but police said they were witnesses to the crime.

No one has been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.
