Representative Mike Ball said there have been proposals to legalize pot for medical use in Alabama, and he said there might be a case to be made for that, but to be blunt, that's not the case advocates seem to be making.
"It's a shame, but the impetus that's driving it, a lot of the supporters, are those who'd like to use it for recreational purposes, and Alabama's certainly not ready to go there. I just don't see it as a priority item on the agenda," said Ball.
He said a few bills have been referred to committee, but they've been very vague about what conditions would make pot smoking permissible.
He mentioned one that would legalize the use of marijuana for a person with certain medical conditions.
