HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Attorneys for Discovery Middle School shooting suspect Hammad Memon have asked a Madison County judge to allow experts to examine Memon in jail.
Memon is charged with the 2010 murder of Todd Brown. Brown was shot and killed during a class change at Discovery Middle School in Madison.
Court documents show Memon's legal team plans to present an insanity defense at trial.
A motion filed Friday in Madison County Circuit Court requests the judge allow a defense expert to conduct a mental examination of Memon. The motion adds jail officials have stated an order must be obtained before that examination can happen.
17-year-old Memon remains in the Huntsville-Madison County Metro jail without bond.
A judge revoked bond after Memon and his mother were found in Texas. Investigators say Safia Memon had two passports and was planning to flee the country with her son.
Safia Memon and her husband Iqbal are charged with hindering prosecution.
A trial date for Hammad Memon has not been set. Attorneys for Safia and Iqbal Memon have requested the cases be delayed until Hammad Memon's is complete.
