MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - An estimated 19 million packages are expected to move through the FedEx network Monday.  It is projected to be the busiest day in the shipping giant's history.

"We've got all of our team members, all of our resources headed toward these last three weeks of December, and this is sort of our Super Bowl," said FedEx Managing Director of Global Operations Control, Paul Tronsor.

About 300,000 FedEx team members and 20,000 seasonal personnel will have their hands full. They will be supporting systems that will process more than 200 packages per second.

"At FedEx, we have been preparing for this busy holiday shipping season for almost a year now," said FedEx Executive Vice President of Market Development T. Michael Glenn.

The shipping process is such a big deal that they even have a staff of 11 meteorologists there to help make sure things stay on course despite weather conditions.

And Monday, on their busiest day ever, the team says weather should not be a major problem.

Increased e-commerce spending is directly contributing to record holiday FedEx volumes and a 10 percent year-over-year increase in volume from 2011.

The majority of these shipments will enter the FedEx Ground and FedEx SmartPost networks.

FedEx SmartPost works with online retailers and cataloguers. They are businesses that traditionally see increased sales during the holiday season.

"The spirit and drive of our team members, backed by the efficiency of our networks, will help us deliver what we expect will be a record-breaking 280 million packages through our global networks between Thanksgiving and Christmas, up 13 percent from 2011," said Glenn.

According to eMarketer, online holiday sales are forecasted to climb 17 percent compared to last year.

The Memphis World Hub, when working at peak capacity, sorts 500,000 packages per hour across 42 miles of conveyor belt.

Monday might be the busiest day yet. But if you are not shipping anything just yet, don't fret.

You still have time to get something delivered before the holiday. The cut-off date for sending a ground shipment is December 17.

It will cost a bit more, but you can send a gift express as late as December 22.
