#4 UAH men's hoops roll past Trevecca

Ronnie Mack recorded a career-best 23 points, and the fourth-ranked University of Alabama in Huntsville men's basketball team recorded an 80-66 victory at Trevecca Nazarene on Saturday evening. The Chargers improve to 7-1 on the season with their fifth straight triumph, and the Trojans slip to 2-9.
 
In the victory, UAH overcame a slow start that saw the team hit just 35.7 of its shots in the opening stanza en route to holding a 28-20 advantage at the halftime break.
 
After the hosts opened the second half by scoring the first seven points of the period to pull within one of the Chargers, UAH ripped off a 15-3 run to take a 43-30 lead with 14:52 left in the game.
 
All 15 points during the stretch were scored by the sophomore Mack who hit five straight 3-pointers. He would finish the half scoring 21 of his team-high 23, and the Birmingham native also registered a career mark in made 3-pointers as he closed out the night with seven – all in the second half.
 
The Chargers never looked back after Mack went on his tear from downtown, building up as much as a 25-point advantage while shooting 68.0 percent from the floor in the final 20 minutes – including a 9-for-12 performance from 3-point land.
 
Jaime Smith recorded a strong performance in the contest, scoring 20 points and dishing out a game-high eight assists while giving the ball away just one time on the night. Wayne Dedrick joined Mack and Smith in double figures with 12 points.
 
Scoring nine and grabbing a team-best six rebounds was Zane Campbell.
 
Marquise Rudolph paced the Trojans, scoring a game-high 27 points. He hit five of the team's 10 treys as the squad connected on 41.7 percent of its shots from beyond the arc.
 
For the game, UAH outshot Trevecca Nazarene by a 50.9 percent to 40.4 percent clip, and the Chargers held a 32-29 edge on the glass.
 
The Chargers will return to action on Dec. 17 when they welcome Tennessee Temple for a 7 p.m. contest.
