Huntsville Utilities plans to increase water rates in January. This will be the first increase since 2008.
The Huntsville Utilities Waterworks Board introduced a five-step plan at Thursday's Huntsville City Council meeting.
Average residential water use will go up $3.19 in January. Over a four-year period, rates are expected to go by $9.71 a month.
A public meeting is planned for Tuesday, December 11 in the Huntsville City Council Chambers. It will begin at 6:00 p.m. Huntsville Utilities will also present the plan at the December 13 Huntsville City Council work session.
