TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -

The state is stepping in to help crack a Shoals murder mystery.

Governor Bentley's office put up an additional $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever killed 88-year-old Elbert Davis.

Police found Davis beaten to death inside his basement in Tuscumbia back in August.

Investigators hope the additional money will help.

"We've hoped all along the person or persons who had information on this case would step up and do the right thing. Hopefully, maybe the additional monies may be the one thing that gets that person to come forward that can provide the missing information in this case to help us get it solved," said Tuscumbia Police Chief Tony Logan.

If you have any information on this case, call the Tuscumbia Police Department.

You can remain anonymous.
