DECATUR, AL (WAFF) -
The Alabama Ethics Commission ruled that 21 out of 27 Decatur High School coaches violated an ethics law prohibiting state employees from receiving gifts, in a meeting in Montgomery Wednesday.
The other six cases were carried over to the commission's next meeting because they were lacking paperwork needed for review.
The 21 cases were all ruled to be handled administratively, meaning the commission will send its recommendation to the attorney general for approval.
A 2010 state law prohibits state employees from receiving gifts of more than $25. The coaches were being questioned about monetary gifts given by the school's athletic booster club.
Each coach who violated the law could be fined up to $1,000.
