ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -

Sharon Wellington was found dead Friday in her apartment in Athens.

Athens Police released on Tuesday that she died from multiple stab wounds.

Police did not want to release the information until now because they didn't want to jeopardize the case, and there are certain things about it only her killer would know.

The Athens Police Department has had all of their investigators working on the case since Friday.

Wellington was found dead in her apartment on East Elm Street Friday night after a friend who hadn't heard from her wanted to check on her.

An autopsy was done on the body.

Some DNA evidence found at the scene has been turned over to forensics.

Investigators said they don't want to miss a detail, but they think the tip will help solve this case.

If you have any information, call Athens Police.
