AMITE, LA (WAFB) -
A
26-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years in prison after pleading guilty to
manslaughter Monday.
District
Attorney Scott Perrilloux said Jeremy Brown of Amite shot and killed Barry
Bates at a party in September 2011.
According
to reports, Brown had gotten into a fight at the party, but it was not with Bates.
Investigators
said Brown then left the party, but returned a short time later and started shooting.
They added
Bates was the only person hit.
The
district attorney's office reported Brown also pleaded no contest to possession
of Schedule II drugs, three counts of theft under $500 and simple criminal
trespass.
The judge
sentenced him to five years for the possession charge and he was given credit
for time served on the others.
Perrilloux
said the sentences will all run concurrently.
