MADISON, AL (WAFF) -
The doors are now open to the Madison Hospital Breast Center. A ribbon cutting Monday morning at the new facility featured WAFF's Liz Hurley. Part of the money raised from the 2012 Liz Hurley Ribbon Run helped purchase mammography equipment for the center.
Women's health advocates said it's important to have centers like this one that are close to home and leave no excuses for not getting a mammogram. They said this center will be convenient for women who work and live in the Madison.
"When you get busy and you're living your life in Madison, it's hard to really drop everything and go to Huntsville for a mammogram every year," said Dr. Libby Shadinger,Medical Director of Huntsville Hospital and Madison Hospital Breast Centers
The center opens Wednesday and appointments are already booked up for the first two days.
