HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Oakwood Adventist Academy held a groundbreaking ceremony Sunday for its new million dollar facility.
A 5.5 million-dollar multi-educational facility is expected to be built.
The ceremony took place at the Millet Activity Center on the campus of Oakwood University with Mayor Tommy Battle and other city leaders in attendance.
The new facility will house an NCAA regulation size gymnasium, four classrooms, a cafeteria with commercial kitchen. The existing elementary building will be refurbished, and the existing high school will have an addition with four new classrooms as well as refurbishment of the current structure. The ancipated opening date for the building is August 2013.
A completion date on the new facility has yet to be determined.
