HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
The
WAFF 48 Holiday Can-A-Thon is off to a good start thanks to the US Space and
Rocket Center.
Students
gather at the USRC for the "Can Do Good" event.
The
teams built imaginative structures from canned foods and other non perishable
items. WAFF's Marie Waxel along with a local engineering firm judged the
structures.
Anyone
who brought three cans to donate received free admission to the Space and
Rocket Center.
"First
and foremost, it's a way to collect canned goods for the needy and this time of
year when there's a great demand. And, second of all, it's a great opportunity
for the kids to work together and use their creativity, teamwork and problem
solving skills," said Chuck Faulkner with Goodwyn, Mills & Cawood
architecture and engineering firm.
The
winning structures will be on display for three days. All the food will be
donated to the WAFF 48 Can-A-Thon which kicks of December 6.
