6th grader stays on top in spite of bone marrow transplant

HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) - "I love to read," proclaimed 6th grader AJ Revera.

They are words teachers love to hear. The Horizon Elementary student may know the right words to say, but, he's not all talk. The straight A student was recently inducted into National Elementary Honor Society, he's a Student Ambassador, and is in the Enrichment program.

But being a star student wasn't an easy journey for AJ. He had to have a bone marrow transplant and miss a year of school. He said he learned a lot from the experience.

"It proved to me that if you actually want to do something, and you work hard towards it, you can actually achieve it. Even when I was sick, I tried my hardest to actually learn stuff through school,"said AJ.

Back healthy and in class, AJ, said when you've been forced to keep up with school when you're sick, it's pretty easy when you're healthy.

"I want to grow up to be a very educated person and have a good job that will actually help me," said AJ.
