ATHENS, AL (WAFF) -
An Athens man died Saturday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash off Holt Road just before 2 p.m.
Alabama state troopers confirmed that Joel Smith, 28, was driving his Chevy Monte Carlo when he veered off the road and hit a culvert.
Authorities said the car overturned and Smith was ejected. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
He was not wearing a seatbelt.
Troopers are still investigating the cause of the accident, but said speed may be a factor.
