FAIRHOPE, Ala. (AP) - Authorities say an Alabama deputy sheriff has been fatally shot and another deputy has been critically wounded while responding to a call. The subject of the call was also killed.
The Baldwin County Sheriff's Office said in a news release Friday night that the deputies were responding to a call at about 4 p.m. CST expressing concern about someone's well-being. The news release says the officers "were engaged in an officer involved shooting" when they were both shot.
Both deputies were transported to USA Medical Center, where one was pronounced dead. The second deputy was in critical condition late Friday.
Authorities said "the subject was also shot during the exchange and he was pronounced dead at the scene."
The county's Major Crimes Task Force was investigating, and the sheriff's office was not immediately releasing further details.
