2 tornado torn families happy to be home for Thanksgiving

MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

On this Thanksgiving Day, two families in the Tennessee Valley are thankful to be back in their homes.

The April and March tornado's left them homeless and now they are celebrating the holiday in their homes.

The Preston family said a prayer of thanks before they eat their Thanksgiving dinner in Toney.  This is the first holiday meal the family has been able to have in their home after the April tornadoes.

"It's been trying but now that we are here and back focused on getting settled in, we're trying to establish the new norm," said Gilbert Preston.

The twisters did a number on the home inside and out. Mold forced the family out and into a camper in their backyard. After making their repairs and battling with their insurance company, they returned just in time for turkey.

"We are just happy to be home having Thanksgiving almost close to normal," Mechelle Preston said. "This experience has been humbling and what we went through was a character building experience."

Another family thankful to be back home, the Pease family. A tornado ripped through their New Market home in March. Despite the devastation, homeowner Maryanne Pease never lost hope.

"It's a blessing to us and a blessing to my family. We went through quite a tragedy at the time and to know that you're left with nothing and come home to the most beautiful thing that you can lay your eyes on is a blessing," she said.

Pease said she will continue to count her blessings.

"I'm thankful that we have all of our family and that nothing bad happened," she said. "It was a miracle for us and most of all I thank the lord above."

Two families thankful for the things the tornadoes tried to take away but faith helped them get back.
