MADISON, AL (WSFA) -

Authorities say two of the three inmates who escaped over the weekend from the Mt. Meigs Juvenile Detention Facility have been recaptured in north Alabama.

Brandon Kyle Evans and Zachary Melson, both 16, were captured by U.S. Marshals in Madison, Alabama around 3pm Wednesday. Madison County Sheriff's deputies and Huntsville police assisted in the arrests.

Evans and Melson were stopped while driving around in a maroon Nissan Highway 72 East near the Marshalls Department Store in Madison. The third suspect, not named, is still on the run but not believed to be in the north Alabama area.

Authorities had described the three as 'armed and dangerous' and were actively searching for them since their November 17 attack of a Mt. Meigs guard. That guard reportedly lost several teeth and had a thumb cut off while struggling with the inmates.

The trio apparently stole a vehicle and crashed through a gate to escape.

While it isn't known what the three were being originally held for, authorities say they'll face new charges due to their escape and criminal activity while on the run.
