(WTVM) -
With six weeks left in the year, the Army and Navy are already reporting record numbers of suicides, making 2012 the worst year for military suicides since tracking began.
The deaths are now occurring at a rate faster than one per day, with 323 reported among active-duty forces.
Half of those have occurred in the Army, which has surpassed last year's record-breaking total of 163. Data shows frequent deployments and failed relationships are major factors.
This is also the first year that the military suicide rate has outpaced the civilian suicide rate.
