Lt. Governor Jay Dardenne says 2013 will be the year of music in Louisiana.
Dardenne spoke to the Press Club about Louisiana's plan for upcoming tourism, including a bicentennial celebration that would bring famous Louisiana artists back to the Pelican State.
He also talked about the drawbacks of bringing large events, like the Superbowl, to Louisiana. While they're great for the state economy in the long run, he said, there is no money designated to take care of upfront costs.
"To do this we've been working with some of the groups in New Orleans and several legislatures to try and find a steady funding stream to be able to make sure we can do this, independent of having to look at the budget each year when it happens," said Dardenne.
He says tourism accounts for $10.5 billion of spending in the state and employs one in ten Louisiana residents.
