UNA Lions win big over Miles 100-47

Every player in uniform scored on the day, including five in double figures as the University of North Alabama men's basketball team routed Miles 100-47 Saturday afternoon to win the GSC-SIAC Challenge. The Lions finished as the only undefeated team at the event held on the campus of the University of West Georgia.

UNA shot 51 percent from the floor and held a commanding 57-33 advantage in rebounding to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Rashaun Claiborne led the way with 16 points for the Lions after shooting 7-of-13 on the day. Bruce Adams added 12 points and eight rebounds while Marquel Darrington had 11 points for North Alabama. DeAndre Hersey and Corey Ricks also tossed in 10 points each.

UNA used a 15-0 run to take control midway through the first half. Trailing 9-6, the Lions got baskets from five different players in the run to grab a 21-9 lead with 7:41 remaining in the first half.

The balanced attack would be a sign of things to come. By the half, the Lions had a 44-21 lead without a single player in double figures. Eight different player recorded between four and eight points in the opening 20 minutes of play.

In the second half, UNA wasted little time extending its lead. A steal by Keynan Jackson led to a dunk by Hersey in the opening minute of play and the Lions never looked back. The lead reached 30 points on a free throw by Claiborne with 14:05 remaining.

Lazar Petrov gave UNA a 41-point lead on a layup at the 7:50 mark. Less than three minutes later, the Lions led by 51 points after an offensive rebound and putback by Ricks made the score 94-43 with 5:00 to play.
