MADISON COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -

A Huntsville contractor said he's not guilty of defrauding the government out of nearly $7-million.

Joseph Shane Terry appeared in federal court on Tuesday for the first time since his indictment.

Terry faces a total of 14 charges of wire fraud, money laundering, making false statements to the Small Business Administration, and on loan applications.

Terry, of Meridianville, was the sole owner of Government Technical Services before shutting down in 2008.

A US attorney said from 2002 to 2008, Terry submitted false tax returns to the Small Business Administration that he was current but never filed with the IRS.

"I've been arrested by the same people before, charges dismissed, so this will be no different. But it's all about tarnishing your reputation," Terry said.

Terry's arraignment is set for Tuesday morning in Birmingham.
