FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -
A Lauderdale County family returned home this morning to find their house destroyed by vandals.
Randy and Doris Hill and their teenage son left the house on County Road 8 in the Cloverdale community early Tuesday morning for work and school. Their alarm company alerted the family to a possible break-in just after 8 a.m.
When the family returned home, they discovered their house had been destroyed.
The burglars pulled clothes out of the closets and drawers, moved beds, threw jewelry all over, emptied food containers on the floor, smashed windows and televisions, and damaged cabinets. They also wrote "go to hell" on the carpet with chocolate syrup and ketchup.
Only prescription pills were reported missing.
The family is terrified, especially because this isn't the first time something like this has happened. They have reported five cases of break-ins and vandalism to the Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department since September.
Investigators said they are actively following up on leads in the case.
