HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -
Some veterans got a warm welcome along with a hot meal in downtown Huntsville on Monday.
Organizers held a special Veterans Day breakfast at the Roundhouse on Church Street.
The event included 30 Wounded Warriors in town for Heroes Week.
This year, there's been special attention to the Vietnam War, which began 50 years ago.
A few vets were asked if they feel like the public perception of Vietnam veterans has changed over the years.
"I want the veterans to know that once a soldier, always a soldier, and that they serve our nation with pride and we have a lot of respect for everything that they do," said Sergeant Major Ronald Riling, Commander of Army Materiel Command.
"And they ensured that our current generation of veterans have gotten due appreciation for their service and the sacrifices that they've made," said Lieutenant Richard Formica with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Command.
There were 1200 Alabamians to die in the Vietnam War.
