GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

The tornadoes in 2011 in Alabama were certainly very devastating.  Now this New York native is trying to gain relief efforts for a place she once called home.

Sheri Knytych with Five Star Property Management is organizing drop off locations in Florence, Huntsville, Decatur, and in Guntersville for those affected by the Sandy disaster in the northeast.

Knytych said she's contracted an 18 wheeler out of Atlanta that will pick up the goods and take them north early next week just before Thanksgiving.

She said residents can help by donating items such as water, blankets, coats, and camp stoves.

"It's going into the holidays. It's cold.  It's obviously a lot colder there, and they don't know what they're going to do.  They've got utility companies working with them from several states, and if they're out of poles, how are they even going to get electricity, get heat, get anything established?" she said.

Drop off locations will be announced in the next couple of days and will be posted on online.

If you would like to have a collection site or would like to know how you can help, contact Knytych by emailing sheri@myfivestar.net.
