TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF) -

Monday morning's rain forced Veterans Day celebrations inside in the Shoals.

All the rain forced Tuscumbia to cancel their parade, but it did not stop the city's salute to veterans.

Many people filled the Church of Christ Annex for the city's annual Veterans Day program.

Several speakers shared their stories of courage and gratitude for our veterans.

Retired Senator Bobby Denton led the group in several patriotic songs.

The guest speaker was Tuscumbia native Command Sergeant Major Angel Clark-Davis.

The Deshler graduate works at the Redstone Arsenal and has served in the army for the last 29 years.

"It's only because of the veterans that came before me, those who are still serving, and those who will serve in the future that we will be able to continue to enjoy the freedoms we have as a nation and as a people," said Clark-Davis.

Monday would have been the city's 16th Veterans Day Parade.

Organizers said they hope for better weather next year and are still pleased with number of people who battled the rain.
