Montgomery revenue increase

Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange says the city did not start the fiscal year in the hole when it comes to revenue like last fiscal year.

"All of a sudden for the month of September for this new fiscal year, we have had a total turnaround of $538,000," Strange said.

He says this year there's an increase. The latest numbers reflect an increase of revenue by 1.86%, in September. That's a total $135,000.This is compared to last year's numbers in September when numbers were down 6.7 %, which was about $400,000.

And that revenue spike is positively impacting local businesses. Owners like William Parks with My Place Catering and Events are seeing an increase in customers.

"Definitely a turnaround. We have a very diverse crowd of people coming in and a lot of regulars that come in on Sundays," Parks said.

It's in the same location as the old Mama Nem's on the corner of Carmichael Road and the Eastern Boulevard.

Parks says My Place opened in April with a new concept of an upscale catering and event venue and a Sunday soul food buffet.

Parks says he's now averaging about 200 customers every Sunday.

"Solely survived off of word of mouth. So just being here, offering good service, good food, a nice venue, that has really increased our revenue and clientele. I do care about the city's, because when the city if doing well, we can possible do well," Parks said.

My place will serve a Thanksgiving meal starting at 11am and ending at 9 that night. Parks says so far, 200 reservations have already been made. There will also be extended hours for the holidays until 6pm on Sundays.
