FLORENCE, AL (AP) -
Euell Stutts of Florence got a Bronze Star
pinned to his lapel 66 years after he left Europe as a sergeant in World
War II to return home to north Alabama.
Stutts was honored Friday
night at a veterans' dinner in Huntsville. He should have received the
award upon his discharge, but some got overlooked because of the high
volume of heroes leaving the armed forces.
He told the TimesDaily that the veterans' dinner made a big deal out of it. He even got the award pinned on by a two-star general.
Stutts served in Europe
with the Army as it advanced from France into Germany. He said his
regiment fought the whole way and helped liberate a concentration camp
in Germany.
