MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -
A man who pleaded guilty in October to the death of an on-duty EMT was sentenced Friday.
Robert Allen Cumbie, 42, of Montgomery, received 5 years suspension and 5 years supervised probation for the vehicular homicide of Laura Smith Pullam, a Lowndesboro native.
Pullam was responding to a wreck along icy Interstate 65 near Hope Hull on December 15, 2010 when Cumbie's truck left the roadway and fatally struck her.
Numerous auto collisions were reported that day around the state as road conditions deteriorated.
Alabama State Troopers said Cumbie was speeding and passing traffic that had already started slowing for the emergency vehicles along the roadside. Cumbie was not injured in the crash.
