Mother, child escape house fire

GUNTERSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A mother and her child survived a house fire in Guntersville Thursday morning.

Firefighters responded to Beard Street around 9 a.m. Heavy smoke was visible from the home.

Officials said the fire started in the rear of the home. A woman and child were inside when the fire broke out.

The woman said she heard something then saw the fire. That's when she woke her daughter up and got outside.

Three animals remained inside. Firefighters were able to save one of the dogs, but the other two animals are still unaccounted for.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
