Burglar steals axle parts

Posted: Updated:

Money, jewelry and cars are common items stolen, but axle car parts are not.

One man, however recently made off with thousands of dollars in the car parts.

It happened at Cannon's Racks and Axles on Leeman Ferry Circle on August 23. The surveillance video is very dark and grainy, but you can make out a pickup truck and the faint outline of a person.

Police said the thief pulled his truck up to the storage shed in the back of the store overnight and broke the lock. The owner said he cleaned off four shelves of axles.

However, the owner, Stan Cannon, said he's the only person in North Alabama who can take the axles from older model vehicles and rebuild them, so he's confident the thief sold all the metal to a scrap yard for about $50.

Cannon said to him the parts were worth $3,000.

If you know who the burglar is, call 256-53-CRIME with your anonymous tip or text or email the tips.
