SHEFFIELD, AL (WAFF) -
Some city leaders in the Shoals want to create a public information position, but the mayor said no.
Sheffield City Council wants to present a resolution to the city's civil service board to create the position.
This comes on the heels of the police chief being suspended and the city's fire chief, Dewey King, being named as interim police chief.
The council wants to have one person be the point person for all departments under the city's umbrella, but Mayor Ian Sanford said it's not a good idea.
"I don't see a need for it. We're a small town. We're always going to have a fire chief, always going to have a police chief, always going to have somebody over the building department. I think it's fine when we have someone like Chief King, who has been here and knows he's very temporary in this position, until this other issue is resolved," he said.
The resolution did not pass and will remain on the agenda for the next meeting.
