Franklin County School officials said the victims of a school bus crash on Thursday were sent to hospitals across two states.

Franklin County Schools Superintendent Gary Williams said they were able to track down all 20 students that were hospitalized, and everyone is either out of the hospital and back at Vina High School or recovering at home as of Friday.

In addition to those 20 students, the school bus driver and the 20-year-old driver from a second vehicle involved in the wreck were also hospitalized.

Witnesses said the pick-up T-boned the school bus while 29 students were on board.

The bus flipped over on its side and students were forced to get out through a hatch in the roof with the help of the driver.

Williams said the school bus driver had the day off and a sub drove the route.

"We have to tip our hat to her for handling herself the way she did and helping our students. She was feeling terrible and that's something she couldn't help but it was just a horrible accident," he said.

School officials said the driver of the pick-up truck is recovering after breaking at least one bone.

"People were scared yesterday and had a reason to be. Students were scared and will be for days to come when they get back on the bus, but you know these kinds of accidents rarely happen on school buses," Williams said.

The bus was traveling from Vina High School.

The school did have classes on Friday, although they did bring counselors on campus in case anyone needed to talk about the accident.

State troopers said everything is still under investigation. They are looking to see if the speed of the pick-up truck is the reason the bus flipped onto its side.

Authorities said charges could come down the road.
