LAUDERDALE COUNTY, AL (WAFF) -
A Lauderdale County jury found Richard Russell guilty of third degree assault for the death of 57-year-old James Campell.
Prosecutors said Russell was drunk the night he got into a wreck that killed Campbell.
According to reports, Russell struck Campbell's vehicle, causing the truck to leave the road and roll several times.
Russell was arrested at the scene and charged with DUI. A manslaughter charge came a short time later.
Court recessed until 1:30 p.m. and the jury came back to convict Russell of assault instead of manslaughter. He was also found guilty of driving with a suspended license.
